Description

The first symposium on Diversity of News Media Diets and its Effect on Democratic Citizenship brought together in Amsterdam, academics from different disciplines (see program on the website) and representatives of the public and private sector at the national and international level to promote, protect and understand citizens' exposure to diverse news information and their right of media customization as enacted by the new EU Media Freedom Act.

The goals of the symposium are:

2. Establishing consensus among stakeholders on how to better study and analyse citizens' news exposure in the digital media era.

3. Investigating the impact of policy interventions to enhance diverse news exposure.

4. Collaboratively publishing a technical report including recommendations for future studies and policy development related to diversity of news exposure in the present and emerging platforms.

5. Discussing the opportunities for future engagement between stakeholders to give continuity to this debate considering the continuing emergence of new platforms and mediums for accessing news (including connected TV and news podcasts)
