In this presentation, we provide insight into a processual approach to the study of collaborative innovation and present initial results of a review of process studies of collaborative innovation. First we discuss principles of a processual approach: studying the interaction of collaboration and innovation; studying both process and content; focusing on endogenous dynamics; explaining direction and progress. We present mechanisms that explain direction and progress through recurring resourcing cycles, using examples of various in-depth case studies in which we have been involved.
