Dynamic Consumer Heterogeneity in Electric Vehicle Adoption

Activity: Lecture / PresentationAcademic

Description

Motivation:
• Electric vehicles possess high potential to make transportation more sustainable
• Long transition to sustainable mobility presumes long-term vision on alternative fuel vehicle adoption and its dynamics
• Need for insight into the entire adoption lifecycle of an innovative vehicle

Conclusions:
• All potential EV adopters highly value time associated with fast charging, Early Majority in particular
• Towing potential is an important vehicle attribute on the Dutch market
• Symbolic motivations associated with conventional and electric vehicles are substantial constituents in identifying both pro-EV and anti-EV consumers.

Implications:
• Improved (fast) charging infrastructure is required to facilitate mass adoption of full EV technology
• In order to succeed on the Dutch market EVs should have towing potential
• Car drivers should be able to relate to EVs before they take a step towards EV adoption
