A well-known feature of Targum Onqelos and Targum Jonathan is the use of the nota objecti yt in cases where the MT has the nota objecti 't. In addition, Targum Onqelos and Targum Jonathan also evidence the direct object marker l in combination with a proleptic pron. sf. attached to the verb which governs the direct object. This way of marking the direct object is a feature characteristic of Eastern Aramaic. In this paper I will try to uncover what may have motivated the translators of Targum Onqelos and Targum Jonathan to use this Eastern Aramaic construction.
