In this Methodology Session, PhDs Loran Kostense (VU Amsterdam) and Lisa van Roermund (Radboud University Nijmegen) will share their expertise on and experience with doing a scoping review!
The aim of Methodology Sessions is to introduce methods of empirical legal research. A scoping review is a form of systematic literature review. A scoping review can be used to conduct exploratory research to systematically map the available literature on a subject to identify key theories, concepts and sources of evidence. In this way, gaps in research can be identified. This method can therefore be very useful for empirical legal scholars who aim to explore a(n) (empirical) field they are not yet familiar with or would like to research systematically. In this interactive ELS lab meeting, Lisa and Loran will familiarize you with this method by using their own research as examples and by giving small assignments to enable participants to actively engage with this method.
