Description

Siblings have a unique relationship and often grow up together. When a sibling has a disability, siblings can have different roles including being a friend, role model, mentor, protector, advocate, supporter, or caregiver. Moreover, siblings are at risk of developing mental health problems, and can benefit from support. These roles and support needs can change over time during childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. Still, siblings’ voices and support needs are often not heard in family-centred care. In this course, you will learn about the experiences and support needs of siblings.
