Description
To consult and discuss the archive collection of CIVA, workshop participants did preliminary research into members of International Federation of Landscape Architecture in a country that was represented at the first meeting of the federation in 1948.The participants drew upon the archival sources to understand the professionalisation of landscape architecture, its professional bodies and the history of international collaboration. Through presentation and exchange of archival material they focussed on questions concerning cooperation between IFLA and national professional bodies; the role of IFLA members, with a special focus on women; and key questions in professionalisation (issues of professional identity). The workshop was complemented by a public (hybrid) roundtable discussion on how to strengthen collaboration between national and international bodies, with experts of professional institutes (Hall Moggridge former IFLA president; Charles Birnbaum TCLF, Ursula Wieser Benedetti CIVA; Tim Waterman LEX; Natalia Budnik researcher in landscape architecture).
The workshop and roundtable discussion are paired with a pop-up exhibition at the Museum of English Rural Life to explore archival materials of IFLA and key members of IFLA.
