TEXTS AND THINGS Welcome to the conference Texts and Things at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology, February 16th – 17th 2017. The exhibition Grossraum − Organisation Todt and Forced Labour in Norway 1940−45 opens at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology on February 16th 2017. The exhibition results from amalgamation of extensive scholarly research and experimental exhibition making. In partnership with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the Museum wishes to use this occasion to invite scholars from different fields and backgrounds to discuss novel ways of integrating research, exhibition making, and outreach activities. The first day of the conference will discuss the connection between academic research and museum exhibitions, while the second day will focus on the two prosjects underlying the conference, the research project on Organisation Todt and forced labour in Norway, and The thing’s method-project. At the 16th, the conference will be combined with the exhibition opening and an arrangement called "SENT", which is a late night event at the museum with different scenes, talks and arrangements for our adult visitors. Confirmed speakers Prof. Ken Arnold – Creative director of Medical Museion in Copenhagen. Prof. Serge von Arx - Director of the Scenography department at the Norwegian Theater Academy in Fredrikstad. Prof. Brita Brenna – Head of the museology program at the center for museum studies at the University of Oslo Dr. Gilly Carr - University Senior Lecturer in Archaeology at the University of Cambridge. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Herbert - Professor in Modern History at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Freiburg-im-Breisgau. Dr. Stefan Hördler - Director, Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp Memorial Prof. Dr. Rob van der Laarse - Head of the Amsterdam School for Heritage, Memory and Material Culture. Dr. Bernadette Lynch - Researcher, consultant, lecturer, Change Management Associates & Research Associate, University College London Dr. Nikolai Ssorin-Chaikov - professor of anthropology at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg, Russia Registration closes January 26th 2017. Conference fee: NOK 900,- The conference fee covers lunch both days, dinner on the 16th, and entrance ticket to the late night event SENT February 16th.
