TEDx Talk on the Impact and Economics of Artificial Intelligence.

Activity: Lecture / PresentationPopular

Description

What role does Artificial Intelligence (AI) play in reducing the effects of cancer? And what is AI’s share in reducing greenhouse gas emissions? Full Professor Frans Feldberg (School of Business and Economics) answers these questions in his recently published TEDx Talk.

The theme for the TEDx Talk, which was recorded in Alkmaar at the end of January, was ‘Design our Future’. This is a topic that fits well with Feldberg's research, which focuses on creating a more sustainable future through data-driven innovation. In his presentation, Feldberg goes into more detail on the economics of Artificial Intelligence. “The ‘economics of AI’ has permeated our daily lives. The clever combination of data from washing machines, solar panels and weather forecasts, for example, can be a solution to a major problem in the energy transition, namely the storage of energy. Students have calculated that this solution could play a significant role in meeting the goals set by the Paris Agreement by contributing a five percent reduction in CO2 emissions," says Feldberg.

Feldberg also acknowledges in his TEDx Talk that Artificial Intelligence is certainly not the 'holy grail'. “AI raises new challenges in the field of privacy, ethics and cyber security.” He hopes that his TEDx Talk will persuade people to actively participate in the discussion on how we can use Artificial Intelligence responsibly.
