Well, in this case it’s more ‘Of Teeth’. In the first episode of this science podcast we (Kat, Joëlle, and Ruben) try to answer the question of ‘Why do we need to brush our teeth, and why didn't our ancestors?’ We not only explore the answer to this specific question, but we dig deeper into history, trying to look at what can ancient remains tell us about the diet and mobility of our ancestors. To do that, we enlist the help of Dr Amanda Henry, a bio-archaeologist from Leiden University, and Dr Lisette Kootker of VU Amsterdam, who specializes in archaeological and forensic isotope research. Together we explore questions such as: Do snails get stuck in your teeth? Did our ancestors eat popcorn? Can political stability affect how and where people moved? and Are Dutch strawberries actually Dutch?
