Course Objective

In this course, students perform fieldwork or laboratory work to complement their thesis research. This allows students to expand laboratory work and fieldwork skills, and adapt the planning of thesis research to fieldwork that may for example be dependent on seasonal conditions or to the timing of international (ship) expeditions. Important: this course is formally scheduled in P5+P6 but can be at anytime, e.g. during the late summer.

Course Content

Students plan, prepare, perform, and report fieldwork or laboratory work related to their thesis research.

Teaching Methods

One or more face-to-face meetings planned on an individual basis between student and thesis supervisor(s).

Method of Assessment

A dataset, fieldwork report, or other method agreed upon between thesis supervisor(s) and course coordinator.

Literature

Targeted to own research topic.

Target Audience

The course specifically aims to expand fieldwork (and/or extended labwork) opportunities to support thesis research. Therefore, the course requires a thesis research plan and a fieldwork plan upon admission.

Additional Information

The course can be taken at any time during an academic year and is not limited to any specific period within the academic year. Use of generative AI is permitted solely for improving the clarity and quality of text after it has been written by the student, not for generating content. The exception to this is the use of generative AI for programming languages/coding. All students should include a statement if and how (generative) AI was used in the final field or laboratory report.
