What tasks students perform depends on the project; from doing literature research, to assisting in data collection and analysis, to co-writing academic publications. At the end of the course, students show evidence of:An investigative, original and creative attitude with regard to problems encountered in conducting academic research;Critical, analytical and normative reflection on academic research and on research results.Students are also capable of:Applying research methods and interpreting results;Reporting their findings in a structured, academically adequate and accessible manner.More information about CICJ research projects can be found via https://vu.nl/en/about-vu/research-institutes/center-for-international-criminal-justice/more-about/research-publications-cicj. Whether ICC-students can participate in any of the projects listed, depends on needs of the researchers and the phase and type of project. Usually around October, students will be informed about the possibilities and asked to apply for projects.Depending on the research project, students acquire (advanced) knowledge of selected topics in the fields of international criminal law and criminology of international crimes and conflict related crimes. By conducting research students can strengthen their analytical and writing skills.Student are assessed based on several written assignments throughout the year, their team work, and their professional conduct.-This course is only open to students enrolled in the MSc International Crimes, Conflict & Criminology.
