Course Content
During this course, the students will deepen their knowledge and experience regarding the dental treatment of paediatric patients. The sequence of internships is based on the general level of difficulty or complexity of the patient categories that are being treated. The course Clinical year 3 is a continuation of the course Clinical year 1 and 2, though on an advanced level. Students must have completed the Clinical year 1 and Clinical year 2 successfully in order to start with Clinical year 3. During this course, the students will work in 3 different fields of clinical experience:• Clinical practice at the University Staff room: The students continue the patient treatments they did in the first and second year. New patients and long-term-follow-ups of earlier patients will be carried out and it is expected that the students demonstrate a level of independence/ deeper knowledge regarding treatment planning and treatment execution.
• Clinical practice in various Centers for Special Dental Care: The students will meet another level of paediatric dental patients, as they will treat more intense and more complicated cases, i.e. more extreme behavioural problems and medically compromised children. The students will work/communicate more in multidisciplinary teams and will be able to use different sedation methods during the management of patients.
• Teaching undergraduate students: The students will guide undergraduate students during their internship in paediatric dentistry. They will chair undergraduate patient discussions, teach various relevant subjects and supervise the undergraduates during their clinical practice. In line with the clinical cases that occur during this internship, the students will discuss various paediatric dentistry cases and items intensively supported by current literature.
