Course Objective

By following the course, you will advance knowledge and skills both from an academic perspective and from a practical perspective. From an academic perspective, the course provides students with knowledge and tools to critically reflect on and learn from their experience working as a management consultant in a real consulting project. From a practical perspective, the course provides students the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge working as a management consultant and to gain practical experiences in a field setting. By being involved in all stages of a consulting project students can gain an “end-to-end” experience they may not have in their early careers in the consulting industry. Consulting skills/Knowledge: You will acquire hands-on knowledge about all stages of the consulting project (e.g., project acquisition, problem analysis, developing a solution, presenting your final results) in a real-world setting and you will refine your consulting skills (e.g., data analysis). Academic skills: You will receive knowledge and tools to reflect on and learn from your experience working as a management consultant. Social skills: You will develop skills related to interacting and communicating with other student consultants in a consulting team. You will also learn how to interact and communicate with clients. Finally, depending on the consulting project and the dynamics in the team, you can also acquire skills in conflict management and resolution.

Course Content

Students will work in consulting teams on a real consulting project. The team members will be responsible for all parts of the consulting project starting with the acquisition stage (first contact with the client, pitching of the project) to the solution stage (final report or presentation). Each team will be supported by an academic advisor who will help the students to critically reflect on and make sense of their experiences as a management consultant. Also, students will attend lectures that provide knowledge and skills related to the consulting experience (e.g., how to manage client expectations, how to present final results) and the critical reflection of the consulting practice.
