https://studiegids.vu.nl/en/courses/2024-2025/T_PD2ENDTRAUCompetences covered according to the General Educational Framework for Oral Health Care 2020, see Canvas Course The student has: In-depth knowledge and experience in performing clinical pulpal diagnosis (using different pulp testing methods), risk-assessment, and prognosis in primary and (young) permanent teeth; In-depth knowledge in performing various treatments modalities in primary and (young) permanent teeth, such as: Vital pulp therapy; Regenerative endodontic treatment; Pulp therapy;In-depth knowledge and experience in dental trauma (prevention, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, complications) of primary and young permanent teeth in children and adolescents; In-depth knowledge of immediate and long-term management of dental trauma; In-depth knowledge of both Dutch and International Dental Trauma Guidelines, as well as the proper clinical approach according to: Type of dental trauma; Patient-related factors; Shared decisions with patients/ parents.Within this course, the theoretical basics of the dentino-pulpal complex in (young) children will be refreshed and the students will require specific knowledge and experience regarding paedodontic endodontics, including direct pulp capping, (partial) pulpotomy, pulpectomy and apexification. Conventional and new strategies or insights will be discussed based on relevant and updated literature. The students will also be encouraged to practice various strategies in the clinic. They will have to motivate their decisions, supported by relevant and accurate literature. Furthermore, the students will be provided with accurate knowledge on dental traumatology concerning treatment procedures and current (international) protocols, complications, and treatment of these complications.
