Course Objective

The course objectives are twofold: 1) Gaining an in-depth understanding of the theory of several remote sensing research applications 2) Executing an independent remote sensing project

Course Content

Lectures, including guest lectures, will cover specialized remote sensing research topics, for example on photogrammetry, surface deformation, fires, soil moisture, aerosols, greenhouse gases, etc. The course also includes a project assignment, in which students will execute an independent remote sensing project.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, including guest lectures, supplemented with reading materials. Individual project with consultation sessions.

Method of Assessment

Written exam and individual project assignment, including posterpresentation.

Literature

Selected research papers.

Target Audience

First-year MSc Hydrology students and students from MSc Earth Sciences or other Natural Sciences MSc programs.

Recommended background knowledge

It is highly recommended that students have followed the course AB_1271 GIS en Aardobservatie in the VU BSc programs, or a similar course at another university. The materials of this BSc course are assumed to be known, including practical experience with GIS and object-oriented coding (preferably Python).
