Course Objective

This course offers BA3 students of ACASA Archaeology an opportunity to further specialize in archaeological fieldwork. A detailed description of learning objectives can be found on the Canvas site. The particulars will be determined on an individual basis, in consultation with the course coordinator and with the fieldwork director of the project involved.

Course Content

This course is aimed at students interested in participating in one of the ACASA fieldwork projects as part of their Minor or as an extracurricular activity. An impression of current ACASA projects can be found online: https://www.uva.nl/discipline/archeologie/onderzoek/onderzoek.html It is also possible to participate in a fieldwork project of your own choice.

Teaching Methods

If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available positions, priority will be given to ACASA students who still have to complete their mandatory 2nd-year fieldwork. Master’s students from other universities who wish to participate in one of the fieldwork projects on a master’s level are invited to make their interest known through registration for this course. Method of Assessment

Written report and oral evaluation. All assessment will take place on a pass/fail basis.

Additional Information

Note that the expenses of this fieldwork will not be paid by the programme. Students will participate either on their own expenses or may receive (partial) compensation from the project's funds. This course is part of a joined programme by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). It is taught at a UvA location.
