Course Objective

Improving knowledge and understanding of the topic under scrutiny by self study (reading assigned literature) and discussing this with the tutor.

Course Content

This is a very free and individual type of course. Students can choose from tutorials that are on offer as listed in the course guide (provided by the coordinator) or they can come up with a subject of their own choice and contact a lecturer if he/she is willing to tutor the student. Usually students do a tutorial in a field and specialism in the first year of the RMA, related to the topic of their RMA-thesis in the second year. Lecturers: prof. P. Nyiri, dr. C. van den Akker, prof. F. van Lieburg, prof. B. ter Haar Romeny, prof. P. van Dam, prof. G. Harinck, dr. E. Kuijpers, prof. U. Bosma, prof. P. Brandon, prof. M. Parry, and others on request

Teaching Methods

The tutor provides a list of readings related to the topic of the tutorial and the student adds titles, or the other way round. The students and tutor then agree on a general reading list (to be read by all participants) and a set of specific readings. The student takes reading notes and discusses the literature with the tutor on a weekly basis. Group size is 5 students max.

Method of Assessment

An oral exam and/ or paper that discusses the historiography or currentstate of the art of the literature on the subject.
