https://studiegids.vu.nl/en/courses/2024-2025/S_HPRCpsThe aims of the research colloquium are for the student to: (1) be able to independently conduct academic research and various other tasks; (2) further develop analytic skills on a topic the student is not necessarily already familiar with; (3) acquire experience and understanding of the work of a professional academic; (4) further develop and demonstrate a professional work ethic.For the colloquium, the students will be allocated to one of the HP-projects offered by the Department of Political Science. These projects will be announced via the CANVAS-site in December; the projects start in February. The tasks assigned to the students within the projects can be very varied: data collection, searching and summarising sources, doing (partial) analyses, co-authoring papers, (co-)organising a conference, etc. Ideally, the internship should result in a final product or products. Those can be: a dataset, a (co-)written research paper, a (co-)written opinion piece, a (co-)organised lecture and/or conference, a conference presentation, etc.Academic research internship / assistantshipThe project supervisor reflects on the manner in which the student carries out the tasks assigned to him/her. At the end of the internship, both the supervisor and the student reflect on the performance. The supervisor suggests a pass/fail. The coordinator determines if the student receives a pass or a fail. Please note: the colloquium is a practical and therefore there is no resit.Third-year students in the Honours Programme of the BSc Political Science and the BSc PPE.In this course you cannot enroll yourself for the projects, but you will be assigned by the course coordinator. Please note: so can sign up for this course during the entire academic year. Although the projects only start in period 4, you are kindly requested to sign up in period 1 already.
