https://studiegids.vu.nl/en/courses/2025-2026/L_ELBALESSTADoing an internship gives you the opportunity to gain relevant work and/or research experience. You can demonstrate your ability to apply the knowledge and skills that you have acquired during your studies in practice. During internships, you also gain insight into the types of jobs, activities or companies that are best matched to your interest. And you may develop a clearer vision of your long-term career goals. Internships enable you to expand your network, which can be useful in searching for future jobs.During the third year of the BA-program you may choose to do an internship (or Experience Placement). You carry out work at the level of an academic university student or graduate. The work must be relevant to your degree program and carried out with a large measure of independence. This placement offers you the opportunity to become acquainted with the job market, and present the opportunity to put your expectations to the test in the working world. On top of that, it provides you with experience in developing a work ethic, professional skills and putting academic knowledge and skills into practice. It helps you build social skills as well: the placement will give you the opportunity to gain experience of working relations, conduct in the workplace, working hours, pace of work, work-related processes and work-related organizations. The internship should contain a maximum of 12 study-points (the remaining 18 points may be spent elsewhere) and is generally offered as a fulltime commitment. A minimum of 336 hours of work is required, which amounts to 8 to 9 weeks on a full-time basis (including the writing of the report).
