Course Content

Content of this course In the course Joint Case & Research Presentations all OHS students participate, together with profile directors, lecturers and other staff members. This course is meant to develop the student’s capacity to present and discuss his own case and research in its various stages (design, research proposal, execution and reporting) in an interdisciplinary setting and to learn from, reflect on, and question the case/research. Having theses academic interactions with other profiles gives participants not only an in-depth knowledge of their own profile but also a comprehensive overview of the OHS and other profiles. Creating such an overview will help to consult with or refer to colleagues from other disciplines. Furthermore these seminars contribute to an attitude of being accountable by participating in peer review, keeping up with knowledge of professional standards and developing a critical scientific problem-solving attitude. First year OHS students mainly have to participate in the discussions. Some students will have a chance to present a case or research protocol. Second year’s have to present a case and their research proposal (10 minutes pitch). The third year’s present a case and their research reports as “rehearsal” for their oral exam (10 minutes pitch). They also have to moderate one session. The moderator makes sure that participants have a safe environment in which they can make mistakes and learn from each other. The role of presenter and moderator are evaluated by peers and faculty. In the joint research seminars the presenter will focus on problems in research design and execution. All participants are challenged to critically evaluate the presented content and ask questions after the presentation. The aim with the debate after the presentation is to help each other with scientific insights and adjust research design and execution into the research context. The joint case seminars the focus is on implementing scientific results into oral health care. The presenter has to demonstrate that he is able to translate evidence-based and best practice information into his clinical decision-making. The presentation will be randomly evaluate by different peers from various disciplines using a uniform assessment form (available on Canvas) After participating in these joint seminars the student will know how to continue and contribute to oral healthcare and the benefit of society at large in his role as a differentiated dentist.
