After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:- explain some of the (socio-political) roles of literature in our contemporary world;
- explain the concept of “globalization” from the perspectives of postcolonial criticism and cultural studies, among others;
- analyze the representation of notions of self, language, and identity in the context of globalization within a variety of literary works;
- present their argument in discussion and in written assignments, supporting their points with both theory and literary analysis.
Course Content
This course will consider how identity shifts and changes in an increasingly globalized world, and how these changes are represented in literature.Teaching Methods

Your grade will be assessed based on participation and one or more writing assignments. This includes an essay or similar writing project at the end of the course. The precise details will be announced in the course syllabus, which will be posted on Canvas. You must score at least 5,5 on both the final writing assignment and participation to pass the course.Literature

There is a slightly different enrollment procedure for this module. The standard procedure of the Faculty of Humanities has students sign up for (i) the module, and (ii) the form of tuition (lecture and/or preferred seminar group). However, for this module the instructor will assign the students to the seminar groups. Therefore, students should sign up for (i) the module, but not for (ii) the seminar groups.Additional Information
The level of English in this course is high. Since class discussion is a central part of this course, attendance is compulsory. If you are absent at more than 20% of the seminars, you cannot pass the course.Entry Requirements
