What factors affect employees’ motivation, job performance and well-being? How organizational design influences teams and individuals? What is the impact of culture on organizational norms? These questions are just a few examples of the questions that have intrigued both scientists and practitioners within the field of work and organizational psychology for many years. This course will provide answers to these questions (and more). Specifically, this course covers several important topics in the area of individual and team behavior, such as personality, motivation, interpersonal trust and effectiveness. Importantly, the study of organizational behavior refers to the study of individuals, groups, and structures within organizations to explain why employees behave the way they do to increase the effectiveness of organizations. Organizations of people are complex and dynamic. The complexity of the interactions, relationships and processes within organizations can make them difficult to understand. Essentially, organizations are multilevel structures and thus managing individuals, teams and organizations requires good understanding of complex interactions between these levels. Scientific findings discussed in the course reflect the multilevel structure and present cumulative (i.e., meta-analytic) knowledge in the matter and will help you to understand the globalized world. The content of this course will bridge the gap between theory and practice through analyzes of cases and the current practices present in the today's business environment.Lectures will be given in English. There will be two meetings per week. Although, attending the lectures is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended to be present in class and actively participate in online activities. During the lecture we will analyze cases which illustrate theories and processes related to the discussed topics.
