Maternal and Child Health has been on the global health agenda for many years, both in low- and high-income countries. Since 1990, there has been an increased international focus on this field via the specific targets in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), and -since 2015
- the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (2015-2030). There are 17 SDGs focusing on gender and ethnic equity; health improvements; universal education; preservation of the environment; and peace, justice, and collaboration. The SDGs are an urgent call for action by all countries (low-, middle
- and high-income), and needs to be achieved by 2030. To reach this goal, the rate of decline in the prevalence of maternal and child mortality needs to be considerably accelerated
