Course Objective

Introduction to measurement theory, psychometry and diagnostic assessment. You will learn about psychometric and diagnostic concepts and learn to apply them to simple psychological and pedagogical problems.

Course Content

During this course you will learn about measurement theory, in order to be able to judge the quality and usefulness of tests, interviews, and questionnaires in both research and diagnostic settings. You will learn to understand and apply the appropriate mathematical formulas to assess a tool's reliability and validity. Moreover, you will learn to calculate norm scores and interpret scores in line with those norms. You will gain insight in the types of tools that are used in practice and research settings, and what requirements those tools need to meet (for example, requirements made by occupational associations). During the parallel tutorials, you will practice with the content of this course (e.g. with formulas). Additionally you will asses the psychometric properties (reliability and validity) of a questionnaire and calculate norms to interpret an individual's score on that questionnaire. You will write an assignment about these analyses and the individual's score.
