Course Objective

This course has the following learning objectives:Students deepen their knowledge and understanding of one of the four specialisation programmes within MKDA at level 300 in line with the regular program of those specialisations;Students broaden their knowledge of MKDA by way of an exam on (given) literature or a written paper at level 300 on a subject in another specialisation than the student's;In the case of a literature exam: students learn to reflect in critical and scientifical ways on academic literature )approx. 350 pages) relating to one of MKDA's specialisations at level 300 by way of an oral and/or written presentation;In the case of a written paper: students practice researching and writing an academic paper of approx. 3500 words based on of a self-chosen topic and research question on a specialised level 300 in one of the specialisations.

Course Content

Students individually study a topic of their own choice (like a historical or topical issue related to media, art, design and/or architecture) that follows up on the MKDA courses from the second year of study, or arises from their own interests. The completion of this module can be an in-depth preparation for the bachelor's thesis, e.g. through targeted literature study or the writing of a paper. The exact content of the module, the scope of the subject and means of examination will be determined in consultation with an MKDA lecturer to be appointed.

Teaching Methods

Individual tutoring by a lecturer of MKDA. Please note that students are allowed to enrol for this course only after permission of a lecturer.

Method of Assessment

To be determined:an oral and/or written examination on the basis of a reading list of approx. 350 pages [learning objectives 1, 2, 3].a written academic paper of approx. 3500 words [learning objectives 1, 2, 4].End terms BA MKDA: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Literature

In consultation with the lecturer:an individual literature examination may be composed in response to a reading list of approx. 350 pages, approved by the lecturer,an academic paper requires independent research into relevant literature and sources relating to a research topic and question approved by the lecturer.

For this course, students should contact a lecturer of the desired specialisation themselves, who then has to allow enrolment for this course.

Additional Information

This module is an elective in the third year at level 300 of the Bachelor MKDA. The module can be completed with a literature exam in response to a reading list, or a research paper in one of MKDA's program specialisations or in an interdisciplinary combination of these. Students who want to enrol should first agree on the assignment with a supervising lecturer. Within the electives, this module can be combined with a 12 EC internship and/or other separate courses if no current minor package is followed. The module can also be taken extra-curricular on top of the required 30 EC. It is also possible to do this module in two parts of 3 EC each with different specialisations.

Entry Requirements

All courses of the first and second year MKDA must have been taken (cf. the Teaching and Exam Regulations (TER) of MKDA).
