Course Objective

The objective of the course is to provide students with an overview of relevant scientific methods for studying sustainability problems. After the course, students should be able to:Understand and explain the main methods for studying sustainability problems;Apply methods for studying sustainability problems;Interpret, analyze, and critically reflect on the results gained from applying the methods in steps 1 and 2.

Course Content

The course provides students with a hands-on introduction to four analytical methods used to study sustainability problems: economic analysis, scenario analysis, spatial analysis, and stakeholder analysis. All methods are offered through a dedicated module, and students need to choose two out of the four modules. The methods will be taught through a combination of lectures, practical classes, and (computer) exercises. The methods will be applied on (simplified) sustainability problems, and students will reflect on the results.

Method of Assessment

Each module will be evaluated separately, and the score for this course will be calculated as the average score of the two selected modules. Each module will be evaluated based on either individual or group assignments, depending on the module. Details on these assignments will be provided on Canvas.
