Course Objective
Students who have successfully completed the course "SS4S: Networks I" will have achieved the following learning outcomes:• Knowledge and understanding
Students will have basic knowledge and understanding of:
o Relevant concepts and theoretical perspectives on networks within Sociology, Organization Sciences, Political Science and Public Administration;
o The social, political, governmental, and cultural changes that have an influence on networks of individuals, and networks within organizations and societies;
o The nature and complexity of current societal issues or developments related to Networks.
• Applying knowledge and understanding
Students will have the ability to:
o Give theoretical explanations of dynamics and inequalities in networks with regard to individuals, organizations and societies; and to discuss empirical support for these explanations;
o Analyze a wicked problem related to networks from different disciplinary perspectives.
• Making judgements
Students will have the ability to:
o Judge how disciplines other than their own contribute to the analyses and understanding of wicked problems and what the main differences between their approaches are.
• Communication
Students will be able to:
o Present their analyses of a wicked problem (orally and in writing) to an audience of fellow students and their teacher.
• Learning skills
Students will be able to:
o Develop a standpoint based on scientific reasoning (theoretical reasoning, empirical support);
o To collaborate with others who employ different perspectives, with the aim to better understand a wicked problem.
