Course Content
This module deals with various medically related risk factors forperiodontitis and systemic sequellae of periodontitis. Certain systemic diseases and syndromes affect the host response and general resistance and will therefore make such persons more prone for periodontitis development. On the other hand, periodontitis may have systemic effects; in particular it is associated with cardio-vascular diseases, diabetes and other conditions. This course will focus on both the associations and the possible pathological and biological mechanisms behind these latter systemic diseases and on the clinical implications for patient management. Further this course will focus on non-plaque related oral pathology located on gingiva, alveolar mucosa and palatum.Teaching Methods
