Course Objective

This course seeks to familiarise students with different methodological perspectives on the estimation of quantitative economic value and the implications of methodological choices for policy recommendations.

Course Content

This course focuses on application and methods for PPE analysis. It offers an overview of approaches to estimate policy value and enables students to apply these approaches using real world data and case studies. In-depth reflection is provided on which valuation approach is valid for which domain. Valuation approaches that will be discussed include neo-classical valuation, ethical and behavioural cost-benefit analysis, citizen valuation, social welfare approaches including inequality costs and approaches to determine the boundaries of the market.

Teaching Methods

The course comprises both lectures, practical seminars, seminar discussions and presentation seminars.

Method of Assessment

The final grade will be based on a group research report, an individual exam and seminar assignments (pass/fail). Students need to have a grade >=5.5 for the group researchand the individual exam in order to pass the course.

Target Audience

The course is developed for 3rd Year Bachelor PPE students with an interest in applied PPE analysis, the interplay between ethics and economics.
