Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach Premaster students how to build a scientific argument, and to help them improve their academic English.

Course Content

The practice of academic writing will be introduced in the lectures. Students will practice academic writing in small assignments with a focus on feedback and repeated improvement. The first session will focus on technical and stylistic aspects of academic texts. The afternoon program introduces a selection of anthropological key texts to be read and/or summarized in written assignments. Eventually, students will write an essay about the nature and objective of anthropological research, using the texts read in the course.

Teaching Methods

Lectures and study group meetings. Please note: all courses in the premaster programme are scheduled once a week on Fridays, consisting of morning and afternoon sessions.
