Course Objective

(a) Subject-specific learning outcomes The graduate has academic knowledge and insight of the: 1. Core doctrines and system of private law, in particular of: - Tort law - Contract law - Property law - Family law 2. Relation between EU law and national law in these areas. (b) Academic learning outcomes Upon completion of the course the student is able to: - Critically reflect on and contextualize legal sources, detect structures of legal reasoning and distinguish between principled and peripheral matters of law - Identify different areas of private law and articulate similarities and differences between them - Offer interpretations of rules in light of changing circumstances (c) Social and communication learning outcomes The student is able to: - Present her analysis of case law or academic writings - Defend her point of view in debate - Select reliable sources to solve and/or articulate a point of view in a case (study) in these areas

Course Content

The course ‘Recap– Private law’, taught in the second semesterof the third year, has a twofold objective. First, it serves torecapitulate the core elements of private law that were discussed in the first two years, and to introduce a number of core elements not yet introduced. Secondly, it serves to deepen the understanding of those elements by reflecting on the particularities of the relevant areas of law.
