Course Objective

Course Content

After your Research Master, in all sorts of situations you will have to collaborate with people from different backgrounds to find answers to (societal or academic) problems that cannot be solved by one discipline alone. In order to do this, you need a firm methodological foundation and expertise within your own field as well as the ability to communicate with researchers from other fields, who use different methods and concepts. The core component of this course is a multi-weeks practice in developing and going through the initial stages of an interdisciplinary group project. By working intensively with students from other tracks within the Research Master Humanities, you will learn how to communicate about research questions and methods across disciplinary divides. In the process, you will gain a better understanding of how to situate your own discipline within the humanities more broadly. Guest lectures by senior staff about their academic collaborations and research pathways will demonstrate how they tackled the challenges of setting up a group project. Giving and receiving feedback and collaborating are important skills in this course.
