Course Objective

In line with the approach taken in the Master TSCM program, the thesis is the proof of students' academic abilities and knowledge on a specific TSCM topic. This work applies the knowledge students acquired in the TSCM program. A thesis is the result of a rigorous investigation of a research question by using methodologies learned during the courses, with the purpose to solve an applied research problem (which is either academically inspired or based on an actual problem in practice). The content of the thesis should be scientifically as well as practically relevant.

Course Content

The TSCM thesis follows the structure of articles published in the most prestigious Supply Chain, Logistics, and Operations Management journals. As a general rule of thumb, it is advisable to consult papers from journals in the field (e.g., Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Transportation Science, Production and Operations Management). These journals are useful as examples to check how good papers / different sections are written.

Teaching Methods

The thesis will follow the structure of an academic journal paper and is limited in the word count.

The thesis assessment will be carried out by evaluating:The research question, abstract and introductionThe literature reviewThe research designThe description and analysis of the resultsConclusion and discussion of theoretical and managerial implicationsSanity and editorial quality (readability and copy editing)Independence, process and communication

Recommended background knowledge

Although students are expected to use their acquired knowledge, new research skills and methodologies may be required during the project to properly fulfill all thesis requirements.
