https://studiegids.vu.nl/en/courses/2024-2025/L_GAMPGES019Tutorials aim to provide students with the opportunity to work on a field that aligns with their interests. By reading and reflect on their readings in written assignments they delve into a research area or historiography on a specific topic. Tutorials may be a good way to define a topic for an MA thesis in History. Learning objectives are:Improve knowledge and understanding of a specific topic by reading about (self study) and discussing the topic under scrutiny with a lecturer who is an expert in the relevant field;Being able to critically reflect on the selected topic in presentations, discussions and or short position papers as well as a final paper or final oral exam;In semester 2 students have to choose at least one tutorial that is linked to their specialisation (Specialisation Tutorial Master History). Additionally, they take an extra tutorial (Tutorial Master History), opt for an internship (6EC) or choose a MA History course (6EC) that is taught in semester 2. If students opt for a second tutorial, they are free to chose any of the tutorials, including those offered by other specialisation tracks. Tutorials offer a great opportunity for students to discuss historical topics in a small scale, open and personalised setting. After choosing a topic, student and tutor jointly define a topic tailored to the student’s interest. They then agree on a reading list of ca. 600 page. The tutor is an expert and will provide students with feedback on weekly prepared short assignments. Tutorials will be concluded with a final oral exam or a final paper. The tutorials on offer are subject to changes. The final program will be announced in period 2.Individual trajectory. Several meetings will be scheduled by the lecturer and student.Assignments and a final paper or final oral exam.MA History studentsBefore the start of period 4 the MA coordinator will provide informationwhen and how to register for the tutorial of your choice.
