Course Content

The student learns to provide information about dental surgery interventions and about the expected back objections and the end result. The student gets an impression of the collaboration and division of labor between dentist and dental surgeon. The internship is 4 weeks in Amsterdam UMC site (VUmc or AMC) or in Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (OLVG), MKA Kennemer&Meer Haarlem, Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Erasmus Medical Center (EMC) or University Medical Center (UMCU).

Teaching Methods

Hospital internship

Method of Assessment

The student is assessed on the following points:
- the course of the internship: approach to the various activities, behavior, commitment and attitude; dealing with patients and staff, communication skills and the like; application of knowledge of the oral diseases and oral surgery, oral pathology, and general pathology.
- a portfolio with at least 4 KPF (Short Practice Feedback), 2 OSAT (Objective Structured Assessment of Technical skills) and 1 PICO presentation.
- the student is competent to perform a simple extraction (goal is at least 10 extractions).
- 5 short digital tests. The course of the internship and the case presentations are assessed by the staff. For each of the individual parts the student must pass. If there are points for attention, these will be communicated with the student during a mid-term conversation. If the course of the internship and / or the case / PICO presentations after 4 weeks is / are assessed as insufficient, then (part of) the internship must be followed again or be compensated by a specific assignment / presentation. The duration, composition and location of this is determined by the examiner in consultation with the internship supervisors
