Description

This archive contain the model output used in the publication Lamy, F., J. C.H. Chiang, G. Martínez-Méndez, M. Thierens, H.W. Arz, J.H.C. Bosmans, D. Hebbeln, F. Lambert, L. Lembke-Jene, J-B. Stuut: "Precession modulation of the South Pacific westerly wind belt over the past million years". Revised for the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, July 2019. They only contain the monthly mean climatological GFDL model output; output for EC Earth is archive elsewhere. The original publication for this data is Erb, M.P., Broccoli, A.J., Graham, N.T., Clement, A.C., Wittenberg, A.T. and Vecchi, G.A., 2015. Response of the equatorial Pacific seasonal cycle to orbital forcing. Journal of Climate, 28(23), pp.9258-9276. The authors have made a more complete set of data available at Erb, Michael, Broccoli, Anthony, & Raney, Bryan. (2018). Idealized single-forcing GCM simulations with GFDL CM2.1 (Version 1.0.0) [Data set]. Zenodo. http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1194480 The model output is published here with permission from Dr. Anthony J. Broccoli.,90_WSOL.1201-1300.monthly.fixed_ang.nc contains climatological monthly mean output from the "Winter Solstice" (WS) simulation in Erb et al. (2015). 270_SSOL.1201-1300.monthly.fixed_ang.nc contains climatological monthly mean output from the "Summer Solstice" (SS) simulation in Erb et al. (2015). The climatological monthly means are computed over years 1201-1300 of the simulation. Data format is in Netcdf. The output fields include EKE28_850 - 2-8 day bandpassed Eddy Kinetic Energy at 850mb land_mask - land mask PRECIP - precipitation QU_850 - zonal moisture flux at 850mb QV_850 - meridional moisture flux at 850mb SLP - sea level pressure T_SURF - surface temperature UCOMP - zonal wind QU_850 and QV850 are computed from daily averaged 850mb specific humidty, zonal and meridional winds over years 1201-1300 of the model simulation. EKE28_850 are computed from daily averaged zonal and meridional winds over years 1201-1300 of the model simulation. The synoptic scale (2-8 day) filtering was done following the method used in Inatsu and Hoskins (2004). Reference Inatsu, M. and Hoskins, B.J., 2004.
