Description
The Netherlands Nutrition Center supports schools in implementing the Guidelines for Healthier Canteens (RGK). Previous research shows that this leads to healthier canteens. However, long-term maintenance of a healthier canteen requires flexible and personally tailored support. The objective of this project was to optimize support for the implementation of the RGK through the use of a digital decision aid, which identifies what support a school needs in its specific context to make the school canteen healthier and/or to (better) secure it. Furthermore, we explored how pupils could and would like to be involved in the (sustainable) implementation of the healthy school canteen.
First, we used a questionnaire to find out which stimulating and hindering factors schools experience in maintaining a healthy school canteen. We then conducted in-depth interviews and focus groups with various stakeholders such as school management, caterers, students, healthy school advisors, healthy school coordinators and Advisors Food Environments of the Netherlands Nutrition Center.
