Formal independence index of European Union agencies

This data deposit makes public a formal independence index of European Union (EU) agencies. All EU agencies that were a member of the EU Agencies Network (https://euagencies.eu/) at the time of data collection (2020) are included.The deposit contains the following files:- "independence_scores.csv": CSV file with the formal independence score of each EU agency.- "guidebook.docx": Word file with the coding scheme and additional information.- "data.csv": CSV file with original data that was used to produce the formal independence scores.- "code.R": R file with code used to produce the formal independence scores.The data contained in "data.csv" is based on a manual coding of EU agencies' founding regulations. Annotated founding regulations are available upon request.Note: Some EU agencies have undergone a name change recently (see guidebook). The names used in the data may no longer be accurate for all EU agencies.
