Aafke Fraaije is junior researcher and teacher public communication on science and technology at the Athena Institute, Fac. of Science, VU University Amsterdam. She is currently pursuing a PhD degree on the development of artistic, playful approaches to involve citizens in the development of urban digital technologies in Amsterdam.
The digitalization of Amsterdam puts important social values like privacy and social justice at stake. Aafke asks how cititzens, technology developers and technology policy-makers can work together to create technologies that are better aligned with citizens' wants and needs.
She teaches various bachelor and master courses on the public communication of science and technology at the Athena Institute, including Science & Communication, Science Journalism, Science in Dialogue, Science Museology, Innovation Management and Science Communication for Beta Researchers.
She holds a master degree in both biomedical engineering and science communication (2011).
