Research

Liefbroer's research focusses on demographic choices in young adults' lives. He examines differences in the occurrence and timing of events like leaving home, cohabitation, marriage, parenthood and union dissolution, both within the Netherlands and across Europe. He looks at determinants of these processes, e.g. whether they differ between social classes and between  young adults who experienced family disruption during youth and those who did not. He also looks at consequences of these processes for a variety of outcomes, like health, social well-being and economic well-being.
