Personal information

Angela Roothaan, assistant professor in practical philosophy

I do research in practical philosophy - on the intersections of ethics, political philosophy and philosophical anthropology. My special interests include intercultural philosophy and African philosophy, criticism of modernity, spirituality, and spirit ontologies. Approaches I use are critical theory, postcolonial theory, hermeneutics, deconstructivism and pragmatism.

I teach philosophy to philosophy and non-philosophy students. My courses include: ethics and philosophy of science for dentistry students, intercultural philosophy for students of MKDA, CIW and L&S, philosophy of management and organisation for students in policy and management studies, the bachelor thesis seminar for philosophy students, and phenomenology (together with dr. A. Halsema) for masters students of philosophy.

Next to my research and teaching I aim to bring philosophy out of the ivory tower by writing a blog, giving lectures, and writing for internet magazines of general interest.
