Personal profile

Personal information

Alejandra’s main research interest is linked to coastal risks from a physical and socio-economic perspective. Although her work mainly focuses on storm surges and tides, for which she creates potential flooding maps, she also studies other climate hazards such as precipitation or wind. Her work includes the assessment of the socio-economic consequences of extreme climate events by analysing the economic losses and the impact on people's wellbeing. Recently, she became a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow. This exciting project will be developed in collaboration between VU Amsterdam and the University of Central Florida, U.S.

After obtaining her PhD in Physical Oceanography at the University of the Balearic Islands, she joined the Coastal Risks and Engineering Lab at the University of Central Florida in January 2020. She has a degree in Marine Sciences (2013), University of Vigo (Spain), and a Master in Coastal and Harbor Engineering (2015), University of Cantabria (Spain). Her Ph.D. focused on the assessment of the coastal impacts of waves and future sea-level rise, as well as the socio-economic consequences of these climate-induced environmental changes on tourism.
