Alfons van Marrewijk, PhD, is Professor in Business Anthropology at the Department Organization Sciences, VU University Amsterdam. He was a professional engineer before his attention turned to business anthropology. His academic work focuses on an in-depth understanding of the everyday life of employees of technically oriented organisations and complex mega-projects. Topics of interest are cultural change, collaborative practices of public and private partners, transformative rituals, cross-cultural collaboration and spatial settings. Van Marrewijk (2015) is editor of the book Inside Mega-projects: Understanding Cultural Practices in Project Management, Series of Advance Organizational Studies, CBS Press and has published in journals such as Organization Studies, British Journal of Management, International Journal of Project Management, Building Research & Information and Scandinavian Journal of Management. Van Marrewijk works in close collaboration with public and industry partners in the construction and infrastructure sector and frequently acts as an expert consultant.
