Roxana Petrescu is an environmental researcher specialised on emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and hydrology. At the VU Amsterdam she is part of the Earth and Climate Cluster research team working on the VERIFY EU project.

Her  current work is dealing with reconciliation and assessment of different models and tools leading to verification of GHG inventories (VERIFY WP5) by synthesising observation-based estimates of GHG fluxes and carbon stocks from bottom-up, top-down and global emissions databases (e.g. EDGAR-JRC)  to deliver products in preparation for comparison and potential reconciliation with official country level UNFCCC emission inventories.

She has a background diploma in environmental engineering and a PhD in environmental sciences/hydrology. She has more than 10 years of environmental research experience related to emissions of greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4 and partly N2O). Roxana’s main expertize is modelling of CH4 emissions from natural wetlands with interests in other sectors as well (e.g. forestry and agriculture).

She has great experience working with databases as previously part of the JRC EDGAR database operational team. She was in charge of developing new methodologies for the inclusion of C stocks from the LULUCF sector, modelling of natural CH4 emissions and performing updates, data management and gridding procedures and intercomparisons. She has great knowledge on representing the available spatial data sets for environmental modelling on all scales, from regional to global and she is proficient in handling large datasets and working with GIS tools.

Roxana Petrescu’s work on data review and analysis is well represented by her scientific publications. She is trained in reporting and presenting her results to a broad audience having different backgrounds e.g. scientists, policy makers and stakeholders.
