Anna Liza Bais-Moleman is a postdoctoral researcher in sustainable agriculture. She is currently coordinating the VITAL project. Her research focuses on quantifying the potential contribution of different sustainable (agriculture) intensification pathways focusing on production- and consumption-side measures at EU level. During her doctoral studies, she systematically explored the socio-economic benefits and ecological costs of biomass use and bioenergy systems using combinations of different sustainability impact assessment tools such as Material- and Energy Flow Analysis (MEFA), Human Appropriation of Net Primary Production (HANPP), Energy Return on Energy Invested (EROEI) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) at global and European levels. She was involved in a CASTLE (Careers in Sustainability Excellence) project funded by European Union’s programme called Marie Curie Actions- ITN.

Material- and energy flow analysis, sustainable impact assessment of biomass use and bioenergy systems, cost-benefit analysis, payment for ecosystem services, forest ecology and management, resource use and energy efficiency assessment, life cycle assessment , land systems, sustainable intensification.

2017: PhD in Social Ecology, Institute of Social Ecology, Alpen-Adria University, Vienna, Austria. Thesis: 'Using and expanding the Material- and Energy Flow Accounting (MEFA) framework for sustainability impact assessment of biomass use and bioenergy systems'.

2012: MSc in Forest and Nature Conservation (major in Forest Management), Wageningen University, the Netherlands and MSc in Agriculture and Forestry (major in European Forestry), University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland. Thesis: 'Profitability of post-harvesting silvicultural treatments applied in logging gaps in Eastern Brazilian Amazon'.

2003: BSc in Forestry (major in Forest Economics), College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines.
