Personal information

I'm a teacher trainer for Dutch as a second language and I'm the coordinator of the Academic Language Programme for Dutch at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

My research interests include second language acquisition and teaching, psycholinguistics, oral fluency, task-based language teaching, written corrective feedback, and vocabulary testing.

Research

How do adults learn languages? And how should languages be taught? My research aims to answer these questions by characterizing the changes in knowledge and processing mechanisms that are brought about by specific teaching methods, especially with respect to (morpho)syntax, vocabulary and speaking skills. My approach is driven by research questions from applied linguistics and psycholinguistics.

Teaching

As a teacher trainer I teach in the teacher training programmes for Dutch as a second language for teachers with and without a teaching qualitifcation. I also teach in the Academic Langauge Programme for Dutch at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as well as coordinating this programme. I contribute to revising teaching materials for the teacher training and academic Dutch courses.

As an assistant professor of Applied Linguistics I taught in the Bachelor's program of Communication and Information Sciences and the Master's program of Applied Linguistics. My courses included Psycholinguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Acquisition of Dutch as a Second Language, and Language Assessment. I also supervised interships, BA theses and MA theses.

In addition, I taught courses in English Academic Writing for Bachelor students in several different programs across the university.

These are two theses I supervised:
