Carlota Memba Aguado is a lecturer and PhD candidate in EU Law at the Transnational Legal Studies Department of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research explores the application of EU anti-discrimination law to emerging technologies, with a particular focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence in the private sphere, such as online dating platforms.
Carlota holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from Viadrina European University, where her thesis examined the legal definition and prohibition of racism in international human rights law. Prior to that, she completed a B.A. in Politics, Administration, and International Relations at Zeppelin University, specializing in post-colonial theories and neocolonial relations between colonial powers and their former colonies.
She has conducted research at the Political Science Department of the Catholic University of Lille and the Department of International Relations at Yangon University. Additionally, she was part of the Transcultural Caravan at the Leadership Excellence Institute Zeppelin, where she collaborated with Transparency International Brazil to analyze the country’s new legal framework against corruption.
Beyond academia, Carlota is an advocate for anti-racism and civil rights. During her time in Berlin, she worked with Oficina Precaria Berlin, empowering Spanish-speaking migrants by informing them of their rights.
