    Personal information

I'm intrigued by the relationship between language and cognition. I examine whether the structure of a language affects its speakers' perceptions and cognition. Keen on the idea that language is essentially multimodal (i.e. both speech and speech-accompanying gestures are effetive channels to express meaning), I adopt a multimodal perspective and compare the language development of Chinese-speaking children with that of English-speaking children.

In addition to the first language development, I'm also enthusiastic about the second language learning. That's why I spare part of my time into language learning and teaching practices. Currently, I'm teaching Chinese to Dutch speakers, and learning Dutch as a student.

My supervisors are Prof. Alan Cienki (https://research.vu.nl/en/persons/alan-cienki) and Prof. Martine Coene (https://research.vu.nl/en/persons/martine-coene).
