Personal information
Y Ngoc Nhu Nguyen is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Management and Organisation of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She is on a 3-year PhD project under the supervision of Prof. dr. S.N. Khapova and Dr. T.J. Akkermans.
She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Economics and Finance at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2017. With her interest in human and human resource management, she continued her education at the National Normal Taiwan University where she obtained her Master's degree in International Human Resource Development in 2020.
Research
Y's 3-year PhD research project seeks to enrich a full understanding of the development of individual career sustainability that is characterized by health, happiness, and productivity. Instead of taking a traditional approach relating intrapersonal factors to sustainable careers, her research emphasizes the critical role of external factors - stakeholders - in contributing to individual career outcomes. The research aims to uncover in which way significant others or stakeholders can influence individual career sustainability, thereby examining several important antecedents, mechanisms, and boundary conditions.
Teaching
Y has experience in teaching the Bachelor-level Academic Skills course at the School of Business and Economics Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. This fundamental course trains students to critically reflect on academic research and further develop their skills to make connections between
theories, models, and concepts. Upon the course completion, students will be able to conduct research, including developing academically sound research questions and hypotheses, and improve their academic writing.
